Health Benefits of Walking

Walking can:

- reduce your breast cancer risk by 20 percent.
- reduce your risk of stroke and colon cancer.
- help maintain bone density and prevent osteoporosis.
- reduce stress.
- help you lose weight.
- improve your cholesterol level.
- help you sleep more soundly.
- give you more energy.
Tips for healthy walking
- Adults need 150 minutes (2hrs, 30 min) of moderate intensity aerobic activity (brisk walking) every week.
- Walk at least 5 days a week.
- Over time, increase the intensity, duration and/or frequency of your walks to maximize your health benefits.
- Children & adolescents should do 60 minutes or more of physical activity each day.
