Jon Morris Prairie Visions Photography Exhibit

Prairie Visions 100The library, in partnership with the Spirit Room, will host a photography exhibit featuring images from the book Prairie Visions at the Main Library. The book is based on the writings of Pulitzer Prize winning author Hamlin Garland, best known for his depictions of Midwestern farmlands. The exhibit features Minneapolis-based artist Jon Morris' images from the book and these will be on display at the downtown Main Library from April 15 - May 15. This exhibit is made possible by a grant from the North Dakota Humanities Council to the Spirit Room. For more information contact Melisa at

Jack Dura presents "The North Dakota Landscape"

The library will host professional writer, photographer, and North Dakota enthusiast Jack Dura for a presentation titled "The North Dakota Landscape." Dura's photography demonstrates the variety of landscapes North Dakota offers in multiple locations. He will talk about his travels, photography and the state. Dura is a Fargo native and journalist in Watford City, who has photographed extensively in the state, including over 300 towns. For details, contact Lori at 476-5977 or email

Beginner Yoga at Carlson

Yoga stretchesThis is a class for those who haven't tried yoga before or who want a refresher. The purpose of this class is to provide a relaxing environment to focus on taking card or YOU! Along with gentle stretching, this class will also teach breathing exercises to provide calmness. Bring a yoga mat if you have one or a large towel and wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. This program is recommended for adults. Call Lori at 701-476-5977 or email with questions.

Sunday Unplugged: a series of tiny concerts at the Dr. James Carlson Library

guitar fret 100Join us at the Dr. James Carlson Library for an intimate listening room experience featuring the talents of solo artists and duos from the Fargo-Moorhead area. Featured artist is Kwaician a singer/songwriter who artistically layers instrumental and vocal samples to build a unique sound to accompany his original songs.

Green Card Youth Voices

green card voices 100The library is pleased to announce a spring book reading event featuring some of the student authors of the recently released book Green Card Youth Voices: Immigration Stories from a Fargo High School. A collection of 30 students' immigration stories, this book is designed to generate awareness about he immigration experience and provide young immigrants with a platform to tell their own narratives, in exactly the ways they want them to be heard. This event is free and open to all ages. A book signing will follow the presentation and books will be available for purchase. For details, contact Melisa at 476-4076 or email

This book is a project of the Minneapolis-based nonprofit Green Card Voices which provides adult immigrants, and more recently, immigrants who are high school students, with a platform to share their personal stories concerning their journey to America.

Gardening Series

Get your green thumb ready for spring and summer with a 4-part series of informational and hands-on gardening sessions at the library. These 60-minutes workshops will be held at the downtown. Blossom Barter - Come with plants to trade!

Blossom Barter is an opportunity to share your love of gardening with your neighbors. Participants are asked to bring healthy divided or sprouted bedding plants to exchange with others.
